GEMSTONE FACTS
Includes:

Step 1: Heat Treatment and Evaluation
--
A standard industry practice recommended for most sapphires. Totally natural and permanent, heat treatment develops darker colors in pale stones. Note: natural sapphires all react differently to heat treatment. We can not predict the final color or quality of a heat-treated gemstone. If you like the natural color of your sapphire, specify "facet only" for that stone.

Step 2: Faceting -- The process of cutting and polishing the rough stone to create a finished gemstone. A cut gemstone is usally one to two millimeters smaller in size than the rough stone and weighs around one-fifth (20%) the weight of the rough stone. Finished weight varies depending upon the size and shape of the rough stone.

Step 3: The Wait -- Gemstone processing takes 8 to 10 weeks for stones cut in Montana and four to six months for stones cut overseas (sometimes longer if we experience problems with the heat treating furnace, delays in the mail or with the lapidary). Sorry, we just haven't found a faster way to individually process each gemstone cost effectively.

Step 4: Jewelry --
A custom piece of jewelry is significantly more fun and valuable than loose gemstones. Gem Mountain only uses quality karat gold settings made right here in the United States.

Our Facet Guarantee: We endeavor to evaluate your rough sapphires with utmost care. Our goal is to provide you with a beautiful finished gemstone. However, rough sapphires are difficult to evaluate and may contain flaws that are not readily apparent. Additionally, heat treatment may make a small flaw worse or generate new flaws. In the event your sapphire can not be cut we will provide a substitute gemstone of better color and quality. Our liability for heat treating, faceting and carving is limited to providing a refund for the cost of services irregardless of the real or perceived value of the material.

Thanks for Visiting!
